July 2026 - Available PhD position in phytoplankton ecology
I am looking for a motivated PhD student to join my research group starting in October 2026. Together with my team, we will investigate how the adaptive potential and key functional traits of phytoplankton jointly determine the response of aquatic communities to global change.
The position is funded through a monthly doctoral scholarship at Babeș-Bolyai University, while the research will be carried out at the Institute of Biological Research Cluj, within a dynamic team and using modern infrastructure for microalgal experiments, molecular biology, flow cytometry, photophysiology and mesocosm studies. Candidates should have a Master’s degree in biology, preferably in microbiology or ecology, laboratory and statistical experience, and very good English skills.
They will get a monthly scholarship from UBB + 11.500 RON/year for research and travel. Additional paid involvement in the group’s research projects may also become available during the PhD.
The admission exam will take place on 10 September 2026.
